NISSAN
Qashqai
J11 generation, 2013-2021
Our verdict
7.0 / 10
A sensible family SUV, if you choose the right engine and check the history
The second-generation Qashqai (2013-2021) is roomy, easy to drive, scored five stars in Euro NCAP and is cheap to run in diesel form. Its weak spots are well known: the early 1.2 petrol can burn oil, the automatic gearbox needs care, and diesels used for short trips clog up. Buy a car with proof of servicing, and the diesel or the newer 1.3 petrol, and it should serve you well.
The Qashqai J11 is a compact SUV, a tall hatchback with a high seating position, built by Nissan between 2013 and 2021. It was one of the best-selling cars in Ireland and the UK, which means there are plenty of them for sale and parts and know-how are easy to find. It replaced the first Qashqai (2007-2013) and was replaced by an all-new model in 2021, so this report only covers cars built from the 2013/2014 launch to about 2021.
