HYUNDAI
Tucson
TL generation, 2015-2020
Our verdict
7.3 / 10
A solid family SUV - buy the manual, or test the dual-clutch very carefully
The TL Tucson is a roomy, comfortable SUV with few engine-level problems reported. Its main weak spot is the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, plus the usual diesel particulate filter and EGR troubles on cars used for short trips. A manual or the 2.0 CRDi with its conventional automatic avoids most of the expensive risks. Check the recall work on every car.
The Tucson TL is the third generation of Hyundai's compact SUV (it replaced the ix35), built from 2015 to 2020, with a facelift in 2018. It competes with the Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage, and has become a common sight in Ireland as a family car. It is comfortable, quiet, and has a roomy boot, and the interior is simple to use.
